Description
The post holder will contribute to the care of renal patients in this busy nephrology and transplant department. They will be attached to a consultant who will be their clinical supervisor. There is also registrar grade cover for support.

The work involves assessing renal transplant patients and formulating management plans, reviewing renal patients in A&E and vascular access drop-in clinics, as well as attendance in theatre lists.

The post-holder will be involved with the care of patients who have had a live-donor nephrectomy, as well as those with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease.

This job provides extensive experience in both renal medicine and surgery.


Main duties:


  • Presenting patients at the daily board round
  • Mixture of consultant and registrar led ward rounds (writing in notes, reviewing patients' observations & investigation results)
  • Ordering investigations
  • Ordering blood tests
  • Writing discharge summaries
  • Phlebotomy/ cannulation
  • Referring patients to other teams for review
  • Communicating with relatives
  • Clerking in new patients to the ward and from A+E
  • Opportunity to attend clinics, theatre lists as well as Multi organ retrieval as part of the National Organ Retrieval service
  • Assessment of patients in the vascular access walk in service
  • Removal of tunnelled dialysis lines in Procedural and Treatment Day unit
Opportunity for Cystoscopic Transplant Ureteric Stent removal if applicable
