Kitchen Assistant

Want to work for a good cause and benefit from spectacular views? We're looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join our Engine House Café at Walthamstow Wetlands, to help us achieve our vision of London alive with nature, where everyone can experience and enjoy wildlife.

Role & Responsibilities


As our Kitchen Assistant, you'll be a customer-focussed member of our Engine House Café team, preparing and serving a range of simple hot and cold meals, sandwiches and snacks.

You'll also assistant our Chef de Partie with cake and food preparation.


Responsibilities will include:

  • To ensure the food prep is completed with adequate stock ready for service
  • To assist the Chef de Partie with Cake making as required (training provided)
  • To finish and serve simple Menu items such as toasties, soup etc for customers during service
  • To be organised, preparing the station in advance with all requirements for a busy shift
  • To organise stock rotation of all items ensuring mínimal stock wastage, take in deliveries each day as required
  • Undertake routine setup, close down and cleaning duties of the kitchen
  • To fill out relevant temperature and closing checks, complying with Food Hygiene regulations
  • Ensure that all back of house areas are kept in a clean, tidy manner, performing regular checks

Rate of pay:
£11.95 per hour


Role Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills (café/hospitality setting would be advantageous)
  • Proven experience in a food preparation environment
  • An ability to take clear instructions, prioritising workload effectively to offer a swift service
  • Problem solving skills, adaptable and an ability to use initiative
  • Working knowledge of health and safety responsibilities in a catering environment
