An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist to join the team at Glan Clwyd.

We are an Accredited Department of the British Society of Echocardiography and hold accreditation in Training to BSE Proficiency Standard and Transthoracic Echocardiography.


We are a busy department providing a wide range of investigations and are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated physiologist to join the team to work within the Echo department.


We are located on the beautiful North Wales coast, only a stones throw from sandy beaches and the stunning Snowdonian mountain range.

This post is fixed term for 6 months to meet the needs of the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

We are a friendly motivated team who put care of patients first. We strive to keep up to date with all the latest technology and advances in Cardiac Physiology.

  • Perform highly specialist diagnostic cardiology ultrasound/ sonography investigations, recording accurate results particularly Echocardiography (and other areas as required) liaising with cardiologists, surgeons and other doctors and specialist nurses.
  • Autonomous reporting of routine diagnostic tests with results sent to the referring consultant.
  • Reporting (without medical input) on complex diagnostic tests unless a cardiology opinion is deemed necessary by the technician reporting the test, this is used to direct the medical / surgical management of the patient.
  • Provide a service to the cardiac catheterisation laboratory including on call provision.
  • To maintain accurate patient records in both electronic and written format.
  • To submit and maintain activity data using manual and electronic means in line with trust and departmental policies.
  • Provide clinical interpretation of ambulatory ECG monitors, event recorders and BP recordings and to produce a clinical report which directs the medical / surgical management of the patient.
  • Provide technical supervision of cardiovascular investigations (stress testing, myocardial perfusion testing) which are designed to assess cardiac function and have potentially hazardous / life threatening outcomes i.e. cardiac arrest
  • Provide clinical supervision in the absence of a Doctor e.g. "Technician Supervised Stress testing". Responsible for identifying hazardous arrhythmias and ECG changes that could have a potentially life threatening outcome.
  • Take an active role in the resuscitation of patients suffering from ischaemic episodes / cardiac arrest, resulting from clinical examinations designed to provoke cardiac ischemia.
  • To provide a broad range of specialist cardiac ultrasound investigations (including standard transthoracic, stress, contrast, CRT assessment and optimization) as an autonomous practitioner on a daytoday basis that are essential in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
