We are currently recruiting for an experienced Grounds Person to Join Business Leader Andrea Todd and her dedicated team at Wear Valley Crematorium as a Heads Grounds Person.
What would I be doing as a Head Grounds Person?
As the Head Groundsperson, your priority will be to maintain a high-quality environment that will give clients and visitors a sense of tranquillity, reflect the excellent standards of care and sensitivity, and work closely and creatively with the memorial team.
Further duties will include:
- Ensure consistent delivery of the highest levels of client service and provision of all aspects of 'Serving our Local Communities.'
- To undertake the full range of gardening, Cemetery, Crematoria, and horticultural tasks.
- Be aware of and sensitive to the needs of bereaved people.
- Maintain the grounds and buildings to the highest standard in accordance with recognised horticultural and grounds maintenance practices.
- Ensure creativity but sensitivity with the design, construction of memorial gardens and where appropriate, utilisation of space.
- Carry out inspections of all new memorials and graves to ensure correct location, orientation and quality standards.
- Operating cremators and ancillary equipment in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines (Full Training will be provided for this).
What Do I Need?
- Health & Safety awareness to include risk assessments and method statements.
- Previous management or supervisor experience.
- Horticultural qualifications to National Diploma Standards (
Desirable). - Skills and knowledge of professional landscape maintenance.
- Willing to attend a Cremator Technicians training course
(Essential)
- Experience in operating mechanical gardening equipment is advantageous, although training can be provided for this.
- Is comfortable with manual handling tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail is (

- Good communication skills.
- Have the willingness to be multiskilled in different areas of the business.
