Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 35 hours per week


About Us:


The University and College Union (UCU) represents over 120,000 academics, lecturers, trainers, instructors, researchers, managers, administrators, computer staff, librarians and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK.


We also have members in the private sector, for example in private training agencies and language schools, as well as members working on a freelance basis.

Students training to teach in post-school education also belong to UCU.


Finance Assistant - The Role:

UCU is seeking a Finance Assistant (Fighting Fund) to join the team on a permanent/full-time basis.

In this exciting role, based in our Head Office in London NW1 and reporting to the Head of Finance, your main duties will be:


  • Responsibility for a range of financial accounting and administrative functions
  • Responsibility, as a team member, for UCU's sales and purchase ledger
  • Liaising with external auditors
  • Responding to enquiries from members, suppliers, lay officials and UCU staff, regarding relevant financial matters

Finance Assistant - You:


Other requirements are:

  • A knowledge and understanding of financial and accounting procedures and principles, including knowledge of double entry bookkeeping and computerised accounting systems
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) at all levels
  • An ability to work quickly and accurately
