Job summary
Grasmere Surgery is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our busy Practice and Clinical Team.


Main duties of the job


To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.


The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Job description

Duties and responsibilities include:


  • New patient health checks.
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate and record findings accurately.
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
  • Act as a chaperone as required.
  • Undertake venepuncture.
  • Administer vaccinations.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested.
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with the public
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a General Practice.

Skills

Essential

  • Good communications skills (written and oral)
  • Time management and the ability to work within a fastpaced environment
  • Ability to remain calm when working under pressure
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of System 1

Qualifications

Essential

  • Healthcare Qualification (Level 2) or working towards gaining equivalent level
  • Phlebotomy Certification

Desirable

  • Healthcare Qualification (Level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level

Other Tasks will include:


  • Clean and sterilise equipment
  • Ordering of stock
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior clinicians of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice Meetings when required
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
