Our O&G Service delivers high quality care in a tertiary setting. This new fellowship is a clinical research position for a full time obstetrics and gynaecology trainee eligible.

Clinical research Duties

Coordinate trial over two sites. To develop research skills. Recruitment and consent of participants across both sites. Collecting device data through ultrasound scanning. Updating trial report forms and Edge database. To record and analyse data. Reporting to principal investigator at each site.

The Women's Services are currently provides across two sites within University Hospitals of Leicester and the community.

Midwifery


There is a midwifery led service at Melton Mowbray delivering approximately 250 women each year and within the two UHL Hospitals there are services for low risk care led by midwives.

There is a Birth Centre delivering 20% of in-hospital births at LRI and a strong ethos of normality across the service.

Obstetrics

The Leicester Royal Infirmary cares for 6,600 deliveries each year. The Leicester general Hospital has 4,200 deliveries as well as being the referral centre for transfers from Melton Mowbray. Two thirds of women begin their care with a midwifery lead.

Consultants are encouraged to have a specialist service in obstetrics as well as standard setting in all aspects of care.

Joint working with anaesthesia, haematology, endocrinology, renal medicine and cardiology is well established.


There are 6 maternal / Fetal Medicine Subspecialists within the service and further development of Fetal Medicine is a priority.

Sub-speciality training for maternal-Fetal Medicine is established across both sites and there is currently a sub-speciality trainee post.

Diagnostic and intervention procedures are available for most conditions and there are close links with neonatal physicians, surgeons and clinical geneticists.

This is a fully funded opportunity to coordinate a ground-breaking NIHR trial. Whilst also gaining obstetric scan training.

The successful applicant will coordinate the clinical elements of the WOMB:
Wearable device to Observe Movements of your Baby study, NIHR research study. The project will be testing using novel medical têxtiles to monitor fetal movements. Working in conjunction with the sponsor Kymira UK.
