Our client is a well-established and forward-thinking SRA Regulated firm of Solicitors of national presence and a head office ideally situated within the East Midlands.

As part of the companies continued expansion, FRS have been enlisted to assist with the recruitment of a experienced finance leader to join the business as Head of Finance.

Working closely with the Board and Senior partner, this role will be
Responsible for the financial accounting function and overseeing the day to day running of the transactional teams. Working closely with key stakeholders to actively drive working capital management and monitoring cash flow.
Full ledger responsibility including balance sheet controls and reconciliations.
To support to the Management Team by providing key metrics and highlighting issues and suggested corrective actions where necessary.

Key Duties

  • Responsible for the direct management of the Finance, Billing and Operations Managers.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of reporting deadlines and scheduled payments are made accurately such as tax, payroll, drawings etc.
  • Review the monthly accounts ensuring reconciliations are complete and accurate and controls are in place.
  • Review and assess balance sheet items ensuring appropriate provisions are in place.
  • Responsible for the budgeting and forecasting of overhead costs.
  • To ensure the monthly reporting for central teams is distributed in a timely manner with commentary supporting material variances of costs against budget.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure the smooth running of the transactional teams with KPIs to measure efficiencies.
  • To set appropriate targets such as cash collection, billing and managing payments made to suppliers in order to maximise the cash flow position.
  • Work with the Management Team to support the WIP and Debt management with a view of improving lock up days.
  • To ensure the timely collection of capital, payment of drawings, dividends, tax and distributions.
  • Maintain good working relationships with key external stakeholders such as Bank Relationship Manager and Auditors.
  • To be responsible for the Group audits ensuring the provision of good quality and accurate information as directed. To prioritise requirements of audit minimising time and cost.
  • To take on ad hoc duties as and when they arise to include assisting the Operations Manager
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, logic formulas and look ups.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages including Outlook, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent systems knowledge.
  • Experience of working within a changing and dynamic finance environment undertaking a broad range of finance tasks and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and developing a team.
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills required. The ability to prioritise work is essential.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence decision making. To be professional at all times and build good working relationships.
  • Flexible and adaptable in approach with an enquiring mind to challenge appropriately where necessary.
  • Process driven, organised individual who excels at meeting deadlines when working within a busy team environment.
  • Use of initiative when problem solving demonstrating logical and consistency.
  • Demonstrable business acumen and commercial awareness.
