Description

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS PRO RATA SALARY

VASL is a local charity that provides a range of services for elderly, disabled or rurally isolated people and supports carers.

In 2022 we secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for our Community Champions 2 project. This project tackles loneliness among people aged over 60 living in Harborough District.

The project links older people with volunteers who help them to connect with people in their local community and online.

The Community Champions 2 project supports people to rebuild their confidence with the help of trained volunteers and to try out new things or get involved with previous interests and hobbies.

This can be done in a variety of ways and is tailored to the person's needs.

The services on offer from the project include; organising a volunteer to visit them at home for an hour or two a week, accompanying them to social activities, providing information on what's happening in their neighbourhood, supporting them to enjoy activities, socialise and make new friends, demonstrating the benefits of the internet (especially if they're housebound), and enabling them to overcome challenges and difficulties by focusing on the positives.

In a nutshell, we want to empower older people to live well, not just when our volunteers are with them, but all the time.

We help build their agency, their ability to develop the lifestyle they want.
