Role Purpose
Transport and Travel Assistance in Tower Hamlets


Growth in the borough and demographic pressures, place an increasing demand on council services, at a time when funding is being reduced.

Tower Hamlets Council, like many other local authorities, face a budgetary gap which is addressed in part through transformation programmes.

Travel is a priority area.

Travel and transport within Tower Hamlets have evolved significantly as a service over the past couple of years.

There is a clear strategy in place for managing increasing demand and a focus on creating an alternative travel model which gives clients more choice and an opportunity to become more independent.


Key Responsibilities


Experience of working with vulnerable people, children with Special Educational Needs, and people with disabilities in a caring and understanding manner.


  • Experience of working in a passenger care environment.
  • Ability to support Service Users into and out of the vehicle and where wheelchairs are involved to be fully conversant with the operation and safety arrangements for wheelchairs where necessary.
  • Proficient in English language
  • Ability to act effectively to diffuse any difficult situations on the vehicles and to write brief notes/reports on incidents.
  • Ability to liaise over daytoday concerns between home and school with tact and diplomacy,
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain written records including recording passenger complaints.
Special conditions for all in house passenger transport service roles:

  • Ability to work flexibly within the services core hours and outside of normal office hours within a rota.

Requirements:

Enhanced DBS Disclosure required

Requirement to wear a uniform whilst undertaking duties.
