Title:
Operations and Facilities Officer


Salary:
£21,000 pro-rata, £12,600 actual, 3 days per week. Normal working pattern is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with some flexibility to help cover out of hours events.

Background
Shire Hall Museum is an award-winning social justice museum in the heart of Dorset.

A Grade I listed building, during its time as Dorset's courthouse Shire Hall saw everything from the 1834 trial of the Tolpuddle Martyrs to the 1856 trial which inspired Hardy to write Tess of the D'Urbervilles, as well as child perpetrators and American GIs tried during the Second World War.

Since opening as a museum in 2018, Shire Hall's mission is to engage visitors with the history of justice and injustice, which inspires people to make a difference to society, politics, and justice for all.


Responsibilities


To support the operational services of the Grade I listed Shire Hall, to act as Duty Manager, and to job-share line management of the Volunteer team.


Key tasks

  • Regular duty management.
  • Job share line management of the volunteer team.
  • Operating the till systems, including cashing up, banking and completing paperwork at the start and end of shift.
  • Overseeing contracts and contractors for services relating to the care and maintenance of the building and updating records in line with the Management and Maintenance Plan.
  • Working within the building's budget for contracts, maintenance, and stationery.
  • Ensuring that the organisation meets and adheres to government regulations and environmental health and safety standards (excluding the café).
  • Ensuring that all relevant policies and procedures are in place, that they are adhered to and that they are updated as necessary.
  • Carrying out and recording weekly fire alarm test and emergency lighting tests.
  • Other admin duties as required.

Person specification

Experience

Essential
Maintaining workplace records, in line with government regulations.

Work with external contractors and contracts.


Desirable
Experience within a heritage setting.

Experience of cash handling and working with budgets.


Knowledge and skills

Essential
Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills, including managing own workload to meet deadlines.

Problem solving and analytical skills.


Desirable
First Aid certificate.

Working with volunteers.
