An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly organized, highly skilled individual with a strong who will work alongside and collaboratively with the Director of Midwifery, Associate Director of Midwifery and Heads of Midwifery You will enable the service to be more responsive, dynamic and provide an appropriate level of senior resource to ensure a robust approach to patient safety and competent delivery of the risk, governance and quality agenda both internally and externally.
One of the key priorities of this role it to ensure the maternity service continue to achieve all of the 10 safety actions as set out by NHS Resolution Maternity Incentive Scheme.
As the Head of Midwifery - Governance, Quality and Safety you will hold an important professional lead role, working both at operational and strategic level to ensure external and internal quality and safety systems.
Providing strong leadership to influence and change the development of governance processes across both maternity services within the acute and community settings.
You will have a key position within the Divisional Management Team, responsible to the Associate Director of Midwifery and accountable to the Director of Midwifery
You will, on occasion, be required to deputize for the Associate Director of Midwifery; at both local and sector-wide level.
Our diverse client population provides constant challenges while we strive to deliver the highest standard of care. We have considerable expertise at caring for women/birthing people with complex and high-risk needs. Our specialist midwives consistently provide the highest standard of multi-agency care.
As a large Trust we facilitate care for around 7,500 mothers/ birthing people and their babies every year. We have two busy obstetric units on each site, each with a beautiful, well established, co-aligned Birth Centre.
Our whole maternity service is exciting and innovative and we have received CQC ratings of 'Good' since 2017.

The changing demands externally placed upon maternity services over the last five years as a whole has been undeniable and has been shown by changes in practice, service reconfigurations designed to enable the introduction of the recommendations from the Better Births report (NHS England, 2016) and, since December 2020, the immediate and essential actions (IEA) from the Ockenden report
In response to this external scrutiny and assurance requirement, the introduction of Head of Midwifery for Governance and Quality will enable the service to be more responsive, dynamic and provide an appropriate level of senior resource to work alongside the existing operational midwifery team, to ensure a robust approach to patient safety and competent delivery of the risk, governance and quality agenda both internally and externally.
