Job Description and Person Specification Residential Support Worker

Overview


The role of the Residential Support Worker is to provide nurturing care for children with learning disabilities, within a solo residential home.

Children will require support with all daily tasks, which include personal care, dressing, activities, school run, meetings, and appointments (GP, Dentist Optician and any other health professionals involved in the child's care) Children will be supported by staff who can effectively safeguard them following all policies and procedures.

Team members will engage in work with the children which will help them with their independence and will support children with their emotional, physical, emotional development.

Report to:

Registered Home Manager, Deputy Home Manager and Senior Support Worker.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment where children can feel secure and free from harm.
  • Passionate about supporting children with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • Build positive relationships with children, based on mutual respect and trust.
  • Be a role model to young people and a positive influence in their life.
  • To maintain a high quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and cultural needs of children and young people.
  • The ability to support children who display challenging behaviours.
  • Work in line with the young person's individual care plan and safety plans/ risk assessments.
  • Supporting children and young people to develop independence skills.
  • Supporting young people with communication and sensory needs
  • Working in accordance with the Children's Homes Regulations 201
  • There may be opportunity to work as a key worker for a child, this will enable the staff member to engage in all meetings in relation to the child and be responsible for their care planning.
  • Helping children and young people to reach their potential and reach goals and targets.
  • Team members will be responsible for reporting and recording paperwork factually and accurately.
  • Attending meetings for young people, and factually recording the meeting minutes, ensuring children's views wishes and feelings are heard.
  • Writing reports to share with the Care Team for Looked After Reviews.
  • Maintaining positive relationships and communication with a child's family and important people in their lives.
  • Supporting children to build and maintain positive social relationships
  • Advocating on behalf of the child.
  • Help children to access community support and services such as clubs and groups.
  • Supporting children with all aspects of personal care, including bathing, showering, toileting, and brushing teeth.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure daily tasks within the home are completed to a high standard.
  • All associated cleaning tasks for a home, including, cleaning bathrooms, kitchen (including oven) hoovering, dusting, cleaning windows, cleaning the car, decorating, and gardening.
  • Supporting children to get to education and ensure they start their day ready to learn.
  • Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them.
  • Be willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.
  • Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in accordance with the Children's Homes Regulations 201
  • Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Attending young people's meetings and contributing to them and recording meetings accurately.
  • Completion of all mandatory training as allocated.
  • Managing daily finances within the home and accurately recording any spending usage.
  • Reporting and recording any issues or concerns within the home which could cause harm to a child or colleague.

Person Specification

  • The team around children need to be committed to their role and dedicated to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Ability to work within a team to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • Good working knowledge of safeguarding and reporting and recording procedures.
  • Willingness to undergo additional training.
  • Professional development, through supervisions, probation review and appraisals.
  • This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work and sleepin.
  • On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered. This may also include covering an additional sleepin duty as an em
