Band - ODP (Temporary):

Are you an experienced Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) looking for a temporary role? Look no further, as we have an exciting opportunity for a Band - ODP at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, based in Grange Road, Uphill, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, BS23 4TQ.


As a Band - ODP, your main responsibility will be to provide high-quality care and support to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

You will work closely with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses, to ensure the smooth running of the operating department.


This temporary role is available from 14/02/2024 to 14/02/2024, with a shift start time of 13:00:00 and an end time of 21:00:00.

You will be required to work for a single shift, making it an ideal opportunity for those looking to work flexible hours or gain experience in a different setting.

As a Band - ODP, your key responsibilities will include:

Assisting in the preparation of the operating theatre:

This includes ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available, sterile, and in good working order. You will also be responsible for setting up monitoring equipment and helping to position the patient.

Supporting the surgical team during procedures:

You will assist the surgeon and anesthetist during surgeries, ensuring that all necessary instruments and equipment are readily available.

You will also be responsible for monitoring the patient's vital signs and responding to any changes or emergencies.


3. Providing post-operative care: After surgeries, you will help to transfer the patient to the recovery area and ensure their comfort and safety. You will closely monitor their vital signs, administer medications as directed by the medical team, and provide post-operative advice and support to the patient and their family.

Maintaining accurate patient records:

As a Band - ODP, you will be responsible for documenting all procedures, medications, and observations accurately and promptly.

This includes ensuring that all required paperwork and electronic records are completed in a timely manner.

As a temporary Band - ODP, you will receive a competitive payment rate of £227 per shift. The payment will be made on a PAYE basis.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A recognized qualification as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)
  • Valid registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Experience working in a similar role, preferably within an NHS or healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and under pressure
