Roles:


  • Grade 7: Research and Innovation Fellow leading engagement with industry, regulators and policymakers, planning and managing research projects and seeking external funding to foster innovation and research impact.
  • Grade 6: Research and Innovation Associate work with colleagues to foster and sustain partnerships with external stakeholders, to facilitate uptake of research and to inform the research agenda.


The four posts will help to capitalise on York's long history in safety of computer-controlled systems and on recent investment amounting to over £30M - the Assuring Autonomy International Programme (AAIP) focusing on safety assurance of robotics and autonomous systems, Lifelong Safety Assurance of AI-enables Autonomous Systems (SAINTS) a Centre for Doctoral Training focused on AI Safety, and the Institute for Safe Autonomy (ISA) which provides extensive lab facilities to support research and engagement with industry and regulators.


Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:


Grade 6

  • PhD, or in final stages thereof, in safety, robotics, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence or a related discipline, eg human factors, machine learning or applied ethics or equivalent experience
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wideranging audience both within and outside academia, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Evidence of engagement, or willingness to engage, outside academia, e.g. with industry, regulators, general public or policy makers

Grade 7

All of the above and in addition:

  • Track record in safety, robotics and autonomous systems, or a related discipline, e.g. human factors, machine learning or applied ethics, to engage in high quality research and innovation
  • Ability to lead projects
