Job Overview:


Reporting to the Director of Bids, the Head of Bid Writing will be responsible for management of a team of bid writers within Mitie's Business Services division, to ensure the development of high-quality bid content for bids and proposals and a focus on continuous improvement in bid quality.

An experienced bid practitioner, the Head of Bid Writers is responsible for the line management of bid writing team members within their structure and has leadership responsibility for the delivery of excellent written bid and proposal content across all Mitie Business Services service lines and sectors.


Main Duties

  • Line management and daytoday supervision of team of Senior Bid Writers and Bid Writers
  • Understanding of workload within bid writing team, including clear and current knowledge of the key details of each inflight opportunity
  • Support the Director of Bids in continuing to interrogate and improve bid practices across Mitie to build further upon the quality of bids
  • Management of internal and external stakeholders, with a keen focus on building and maintaining positive working relationships at all levels up to executive management
  • Provide clear feedback to bid writing and wider bid team members with regards to bid quality, offering support and coaching to foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Support Director of Bids and Bid Excellence Director to develop ongoing programme of bid writing coaching and training, to drive continuous improvement within bid writing team and wider Mitie Business Services bid and sales teams
  • Reporting and feedback to senior leadership and colleagues, including workload tracking and updates
  • Work alongside other senior bid team colleagues in effective management of team resources and capacity

What we are looking for:

An inspiring and strong team leader, the Head of Bid Writing should:

  • Have extensive experience in bid writing and bid management, preferably including within the FM sector
  • Have previous experience of line management and leading a team
  • Possess strong written English language skills, demonstrated through a depth of bid writing experience
  • Be skilled in providing feedback and coaching to bid writers and others involved in developing written bid content
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects and working to deadlines
  • Have experience of winning both public and private sector bids
  • Be tenacious and results driven with sound business judgement
  • Be commercially aware and customer focused
  • Be able to prioritise, demonstrating first class organisational skills and time management skills
