£10.90 per hour


HOURS:6 hours flexible weekly / as and when required

Knowledge and Essential

Experience

  • Experience of working alongside and engaging with a range of people with a variety of disabilities.
  • Good knowledge of safeguarding protocols
  • Good knowledge of GDPR and storing personal Application information on database systems Form and
  • Maintaining timely records Interview.
  • Good IT skills, potentially knowledge of 'Dragon' system and creating word, excel and such documents
  • Connecting with individuals, groups and networks
  • Experience of working alongside others.

Skills Essential

  • Ability to remain calm and sensitive, whilst providing reassurance and confidence in stressful situations.
  • Ability to allow service user to selfmanage/ regulate in time where they are in a heightened state "having a mini meltdown" and being able to give them the space they need to do this alone.
  • Have a sound practical knowledge of road sense and safety, which will enable you to provide clear and calm Application
Form and instructions for directions in a timely manner in times ofInterview. confusion, i.e., travelling to new places.

  • Ability to provide support at meetings (e.g., moving tables, helping make drinks, take notes etc.)

What Does a Personal Assistant (PA) do?

Midland Mencap is looking to appoint Personal Assistants to support an individual.

This is a specific role and will entail support in the form of the PA being flexible around supporting the individual in accessing their weekly work meetings, appointments and completing specific administrative tasks all focused on the needs of the individual.

The PA needs to be flexible in the hours and days they will work, however those will be disused and planned with the induvial in a timely manner allowing enough time for planning in advance.

The PA needs to be organised, calm and most importantly have a good sense of humour.

On the other hand, the PA should have an understanding of the barriers facing the individuals and how their disability affects their day to day and working life.

It is essential as well as a commitment to maintain and uphold the rights of individuals with a learning disability.


They must be enthusiastic, calm, organised and have the willingness to be flexible due to the unique needs of the role.


Key Tasks:


  • A crucial part of this role is in supporting the individual as a travel buddy, by where you will be accompanying them in their own car to and from meetings and appointments. You must have good road sense in being able to give clear and timely instructions, especially where the individual may become overwhelmed and may panic. In these instances, you must remain calm and patient.
  • Actively seek and create opportunities to engage and empower the individual to be independent in traveling to and from meetings, appointments and work. Whilst supporting them within their role with administrative tasks such as note taking report writing and using
'Dragon' software.

  • Supporting in ensuring the individual's workload and weekly schedule is up to date, where all meetings can be attended, other face to face or virtually.

  • Communicate effectively with the individual, their colleagues and professionals when in a work capacity environment.
  • Ensure appropriate professional boundaries with the individuals, theirs and your fellow colleagues and other professionals are maintained.
  • Attend training courses as required to develop knowledge and skills to improve the quality of the service you provide.
  • Carry out any other tasks that are deemed appropriate within your job role and the aims of the organisation.
