Description

Research Fellow:

Are you an aspiring researcher looking for your next project? Do you have a background in quantitative
analysis? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK's leading research intensive Universities?

Project aims

This project is developing a report on low-pay in West Yorkshire that will feed into the call for evidence of the West Yorkshire fair work charter.

It will report on worker precarity in the West Yorkshire region and involves three elements. A quantitative analysis of quarterly Labour Force Survey and NOMIS on Employment and Pay trends. Secondly, a desk review on similar Fair Work initiatives in the UK outlining feature, progress and implementation challenges.

Thirdly, in-depth biographical interviews with 10-15 low-paid workers to explore diverse experiences of low-paid work including potentially by women, queer, disabled, migrant and BAME origin workers in the post-COVID era.

You will focus your work on the second and third elements of the study, requiring expertise accessing and interviewing a diverse range of low-paid workers and knowledge of the dynamics of work, employment and political economy in the Yorkshire region.

Planned outputs

The project will include an integrated report on the findings from each stage and a submission to the call for evidence.

The project will also form the focus of workshop with regional partners including the Y&HTUC, trade unions and WYCA.
