We are currently recruiting for a Case Presenter to join our Governance directorate on a permanent basis.


The purpose of this role is to advise and provide guidance to ACCA with regards to the investigation of complaints against students, affiliates, members and firms.

Advise senior / executive management on an ad hoc basis to ensure that decisions made comply with regulatory law practice and judicial authority.


You will also present cases before the Disciplinary, Appeal, Interim Orders, Admissions and Licensing Committees, including acting alone or as led junior counsel in high profile or complex cases before ACCA Committees and the appellate courts.


The Job

  • Advising (Senior) Investigating Officers / Managers on the conduct of investigations, evidential issues and drafting allegations with a view to ensuring investigations conducted within necessary legal parameters and thereby enable ACCA to carry out its regulatory function effectively.
  • Thorough written review of investigation reports prior to independent assessor consideration, finalising allegations, identifying and request further investigation required and the provision of written feedback to (Senior) Investigating Officers in order to improve the quality and robustness of our investigations and enable ACCA to fulfil its regulatory function effectively.
  • Preparation and presentation of cases before the Disciplinary, Appeal, Interim Orders, Admissions and Licensing Committees. Providing written reviews in respect of hearings to identify common issues and learning points.
  • Providing advice generally in the context of regulatory law to the Adjudication Department as well as ACCA as a whole including;
  • Written contributions to the quarterly legal update and annual legal update for panellists;
  • Oral presentation of legal updates at departmental meetings and panellist training days;
  • Amendments to the Disciplinary, Authorisation and Appeals Regulations.
  • Providing Continuing Professional Development training sessions to ACCA as a whole to assist the development of the organisation and ensure consistency of approach.
  • Assist with the maintenance of procedures documents and to provide advice where applicable on areas of improvement for inclusion in the procedures manual.
  • Supervising designated work and acting up as the Case Presentation Manager if required in order to facilitate smooth running of the team and department.
  • Undertaking various other duties and projects as and when required as and when required by the Case Presentation Manager and/or Head of Adjudication.

The Person
A barrister or solicitor advocate with the ability to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience of civil / criminal proceedings;
  • Sound knowledge of the rules of evidence, civil and criminal procedure;
  • Sound knowledge of human rights legislation and practice;
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory law, practice and procedure;
  • Some knowledge of data protection law, practice and procedure;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels;
  • Ability to manage a significant caseload and provide appropriate legal advice on complex issues with a focused approach to delivering results in accordance with guidelines and targets;
  • Analytical ability to identify relevant considerations in voluminous material paying close attention to detail and quality;
  • Confident team player with the ability to work in an autonomous role;
  • Ability to provide professional supervision;
  • Confident and persuasive advocacy with the ability to influence others;
  • Preferably authorised by BSB to conduct litigation (applicable to barristers only).
