The post holder will provide specialist support and guidance as required to ensure compliance with legislation, guidance and best practice in relation to Health and Safety and ensure competence of staff.


The post holder will:


  • Provide professional and competent advice, guidance, information and instruction to stakeholders as required, ensuring appropriate policies, procedures, training and assessments are in place, in line with national legislation and guidance
  • Ensure correct systems and processes are adhered to enable the reporting and investigation of accidents/incidents and the implementation of controls measures
  • Work with senior officers to identify occupations/activities requiring risk assessment and provide support to address the safety implications
  • Carry out proactive audits and inspections in accordance with riskbased priority planning programmes, providing advice and support on actions required to achieve compliance with legislation, guidance etc and where necessary enforcement action monitor compliance
  • Develop and implement systems and processes to ensure the competence of contractors are routinely assessed and monitored by those Managers responsible
  • To be proactive in engaging stakeholders to ensure the success of the safety management system, including representing as appropriate and maintaining working relationships with statutory bodies / enforcement agencies
  • To work proactively to ensure a robust and current training needs analysis is in place to ensure staff across the organisation are trained in line with legislative, mandatory and business requirements (including identify skills, knowledge and gaps, review trends and reviewed in line with risk assessments)
  • Design and coordinate an effective and prioritised training and development programme for all stakeholders (in house packages and accredited training)
  • To arrange and / or deliver all aspects of competent technical and complex training at a variety of sites using a variety of training methods (including training material) ensuring the learner is guided and supported.
  • To ensure that material (inc training packages) is regularly updated in accordance with current legislation, business need and the requirements of the various awarding bodies
  • There is a requirement for specialisms in areas such as HAVS, Fire Safety, Asbestos Management and Training and Development
  • Attracting external development opportunities.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture

Shortlisting and interview criteria

  • Proven and substantial experience of operating in a busy Health and Safety Setting, providing advice and guidance to clients or stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation to Health and Safety, regulatory and performance standards and best practice in this area
  • Delivering customer services in a fast paced and highvolume working environment
  • Experience of maintaining, developing and communicating with multiple and varied internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of reviewing and revising business processes and implementing new ways of working including the review of Health and Safety procedures
  • Experience of performance management, quality assurance systems and compiling statistics and reporting information
  • Experience of successfully managing projects from initiation through to completion such as undertaking audits, inspections and developing occupational health and safety management systems and including the development and introduction of new initiatives
  • Significant experience of undertaking audits, inspections and working within occupational health and safety management systems
  • Understanding and experience in delivering occupational health monitoring and risk assessment of employees
  • Significant experience of delivering face to face Health and Safety training
  • Experience of designing and delivering competent training and instruction to a variety of stakeholders, including structured planning

Salary:
£18.00-£22.50 per hour
