Description

We are looking for three dynamic and enthusiastic doctors to join our ward based specialty teams working at The Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.

We have the opportunity for you to join the COTE or Respiratory teams for 6 months from 1stFebruary 2023.


There is on site support from the full range of Medical and Acute Surgical specialties as well as Radiology, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Intensive Care, Haematology and Orthopaedics.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in the general medical on-call rota.


Although this post is not recognised for training, participation in educational programmes, audit, quality improvement and research will be encouraged and supported.


The post will be part of the general Medical team and provide support to the combined general medical on-call rota for emergency work at a SHO level as well as support to ward based speciality teams, or the acute medical unit.


The post holder will be required to support the delivery of outpatient, inpatient and emergency services for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the specialist area, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and Management Teams.

This post is fixed term from 1st February 2023 for six months.


Experience of working in the UK at least foundation level of general medicine would be expected and special interests, which complement existing services, will be supported.

  • To assist within General Medicine subspecialties
  • COTE and Respiratory, subspecialties include acute frailty, COTE, gastroenterology, and cardiology (with potential further subspecialties to be confirmed.)
  • To take part in the general medical on call.
  • To assist in team building across all Directorate services and teams.

CLINICAL SESSIONS include:


  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Ward Rounds
  • Oncall

SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

  • Research
  • Clinical Audit and Quality improvement
  • Administration
  • Education and training. Whilst this post is not recognised for training purposes, every effort will be made to provide opportunity for training equivalent to official training posts.
Clinical Duties

  • Regular outpatient clinics.
  • To be actively involved in the management and decision making for patients.
  • Supporting more junior members of the team.
  • To conduct ward rounds to identify and assess problems and assist in joint plans for management of care.
  • To contribute to an appropriate model of care which, recognises the involvement of the multidisciplinary team, the patient and family.
  • Ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multidisciplinary team, the patient and family.
  • Work with the rest of the clinical team to support the delivery of a high quality service provided by welltrained staff within clear departmental policies and procedures.
  • The post holder will be required to participate in the on call rota.
Education and Training

  • To participate in a multidisciplinary structured programme of training and education.
  • To comply with Professional standards including actively participating in appraisal and revalidation procedures.
Audit

  • To actively participate in regular and systematic multidisciplinary clinical audit.
  • To participate at morbidity and mortality meetings ensuring lessons learned are shared.
  • The post holder will be encouraged to initiate / undertake research projects.
Management

  • The post holder will be required to cooperate with local management in the efficient running of services.
  • There is a requirement to work within the financial and other constraints decided upon by the Health Board. Additional expenses of any kind must not be committed without the approval of the appropriate manager/budget holder.
  • The post holder will be expected to comply with local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board.
  • Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service, the post holder will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the professions where they involve clinical matters.
