This is a new position reporting to the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager, providing support in the delivery of Health, Safety, Environment, Compliance and Well-being both on site and in the office.
You will use your knowledge and skills to work proactively with managers to develop and maintain systems that promote a culture of safe working practices and preventative safety measures across the organisation.
You will be responsible for further developing the processes and procedure of the department, maintaining records and overseeing site based training needs, gap analysis, Implementing training plans and working with Managers to ensure that appropriate training takes place.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate accidents, nearmisses and potential incidents and prepare the appropriate report, including findings and recommendations to prevent a recurrence
- Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced
- Carry out site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
- Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation
- Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
- Provide accident statistics, analysis and proposals of remedial action
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE)legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry
- Produce management reports, toolbox talks and bulletins
- Ensure equipment is safety checked / installed safely
- Prepare reports to enforcing authorities and HSE as required by the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR)
- Support the Contracts Departments in the preparation of risk assessments / JHA'S.
- Maintain a register of First Aiders and ensure the adequate provision of firstaid and welfare facilities. Ensure all First Aiders are appropriately trained
- Develop procedures to ensure that contractors, suppliers, consultants and other irregular visitors comply with relevant legislation and client safety policies
- Maintain the company COSHH database, ensuring COSHH statements are available on all hazardous materials and that effective Risk Assessments are in place to manage the handling and use of such substances
- Carry workplace safety audits and implement remedial recommendations
- Ensure that statutory requirements are being upheld throughout the organisation e.g. COSHH, RIDDOR, Display Screen Equipment, Risk Assessments etc.
Academic Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience of working in the construction industry
- Above Average IT Skills (Microsoft Office)
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail
- A good problem solver
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Holder of a full valid UK driving licence
- The role holder must undertake continues personal development to ensure they and the business are fully up to date with Construction and HSE legislation

£26,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
