The postholder has a lead role in assuring that London Fire Brigade is trusted to serve and protect London by managing what we speak to our audiences about and when.

This role will help build confidence in the LFB by driving a more strategic approach toour communications.

Key aspects of the role include devising and delivering a new communications planning process to ensure our communications are aligned to LFBs strategic priorities and deliver maximum impact and influence across all our audiences.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a communications planning process that enables the team and the organisation to effectively identify, develop and plan all communications activity.
  • Enable the Communications Directorate to effectively plan and deliver their communications activity to ensure maximum impact.
  • Develop and implement a process to ensure all communication activity is properly evaluated. Following up on project successes and identifying areas of improvement for future projects?.
  • Create a system to ensure all internal stakeholders are up to date on evolving communications plans?in the most appropriate forum and format.?
  • Provide strategic and expert advice to the Director of Communications and Communications Team, to ensure all activity is properly planned and executed.
  • Own and manage the communications forward planning process, identifying opportunities that could enhance LFB's messaging as well as issues that could potentially damage the organisation's reputation. Working with colleague's plan and prepare actions tomaximise opportunity and minimise risk.
  • Track and monitor future Brigade wide initiatives and decisions to ensure communications are
  • Produce regular briefings and reports on all communications activity showing how it Is tracking and delivering against the LFB's priorities.
  • Draft documents including reports, briefings, PowerPoint presentations, information packs and other materials as required.
Previous experience

  • At least five years' experience working in a Communications Planning Management role.
  • Strong organisation skills and ability to create planning routines and manage multiple projects
  • Experience of managing communications projects from inception to evaluation, including planning and budgeting
  • Excellent knowledge of strategic planning, particularly within communications
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, along with first class attention to detail and prioritisation and time management skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills in order to work with staff and partners at all levels
  • Highly developed organisational skills and initiative to manage own workloads ensuring deadlines are met
  • Fully IT literate and comfortable utilising MS Office packages
  • Understanding of the Brigade's key aims and priorities and the principles of modernisation in the fire service.
