This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual to join the Children's Speech and Language Therapy service and be part of Derbyshire Community Health Services.

The post is with our children's team based in Amber Valley.


We are a large and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy service of around 100 staff working across all service areas in Derbyshire.


As a member of our team you will be working in a service with a well established reputation for delivering a patient centred approach.

The post will provide support to children with speech, language and communication needs.


The post holder will be delivering programmes of intervention to children in early years settings, schools, patient homes and through telehealth.


You will be supervised by SLTs, with support from a Team Leader as well as peer support from colleagues at Band 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.


If you can demonstrate good communication skills, have the ability to deliver competent, evidence based clinical care we want to hear from you.

Previous experience of working with children with speech, language and communication needs is essential.


Access to a vehicle and the ability to travel as part of the role on a daily basis is essential.


Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.


We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people's own homes and via virtual consultations.


During the pandemic response we have led the implementation of public vaccination centres in collaboration with partners across health and social care.

  • To assist the SLT in providing a clinical service (assessment and treatment) to an SLT caseload.
  • To carry out programmes of therapy under the supervision of the SLT within a clinical team.
  • To maintain accurate and contemporaneous records in line with RCSLT professional and Trust standards.
  • To participate in training in areas of clinical experience.
  • To demonstrates duties to new starters and less experienced SLTAs, SLPs, SLTs and other support staff.
  • To understand the rationale behind therapy tasks and activities set by the SLT based on basic theory of speech, language and communication development/breakdown.
  • To develop a working knowledge of relevant procedures including safeguarding for children and adults.
