The White Rose Forest (WRF) is the community forest for North and West Yorkshire and one of 13 community forest partnerships in England.

Our partnership of 38 organisations, including all local authorities in the region, national parks, charities, community groups and businesses, is governed by a local authority-based joint venture agreement, with Kirklees Council as the accountable body.


Our aim is to significantly increase tree coverage in North and West Yorkshire over the next 30 years and to do so by bringing people and communities into the process of planning, planting and looking after the trees and new woodlands.

The White Rose Forest now has an opportunity for a Landscapes for Water Project Officer to join the WRF Core Team on a short fixed-term contract until the end of March This post is employed through Community Forest Trust, working as part of The White Rose Forest Team.

The post-holder will primarily work from home, with regular site visits and monthly in-person team meetings required within North and West Yorkshire.


The key responsibilities required within this role are:

  • To provide various services and advice to landowners and partners, including site surveys, design and forestry planning support.
  • Upload recorded data on the Kirklees Kompass Geographical and Information System and transfer relevant detail, as required by the WRF Programme Manager, including uploading sites on to the Forestry Commission public register.
  • Carry out desk top appraisals for projects using Microsoft Office tools and to make entry of stakeholder data complies with Kirklees data processing and GDPR regulations.
  • Support the WRF Programme Manager in the development, monitoring and evidencing of grant awards and claims for woodland creation grant agreement contracts.
  • Record and store all notes and correspondence during the landowner engagement process under guidance from the WRF GIS and Data Manager.
  • Ensure value for money and controlled expenditure within any agreed project budgets to adhere to financial policies and regulations.
  • To undertake informal and formal training as agreed; and
  • To travel throughout North and West Yorkshire as required (a full driving licence and ability to get independently to site visits is required).
  • Attendance at the weekly and monthly WRF Core Team and Programme Meetings as required.
  • Work with the WRF Programme Manager (Iwan Downey) to produce any other deliverables and documentation required.
Experience and strong familiarity with geographical information systems and public registers is also an essential requirement for the role.
