SEN Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Lambeth


About the role:


  • SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary special needs school.


  • Start date

  • January 202
  • Full time and long term with the potential to turn in to a permanent contract for the right person.
  • Pay up to £90 per day.
  • The role involves inclass support in KS2 supporting young people with Autism.
  • You will need to support the class teacher in delivering and monitoring activities, recognising triggers and any potential crisis situations.
  • As the young people have Autism you will need to employ certain strategies to manage their emotions and sensitivities as they may struggle with too much sensory input.
  • You must have previous experience supporting young people with Autism or Complex Needs.
  • The new SEN Teaching Assistant will need to be caring, patient and empathetic to each individual.

About the school:


  • Primary special school for young people with Autism & Complex Needs at Reception, KS1 and KS
  • Rated GOOD by Ofsted. They management are well organised and have adapted the school environment & curriculum to meet the needs of their pupils and support staff in their work.
  • There is a fantastic team atmosphere and everyone helps each other out with challenging situations so the new SEN Teaching Assistant also needs to be someone who enjoys collaborative working.

About the pupils:


  • All pupils are aged 311 and all have an EHCP for Special Needs including Autism and Complex Needs.
  • Most pupils are verbal although some also have speech & language needs.
  • Some pupils will have emotional and behavioural responses to certain triggers and frustrations which will need to be managed and deescalated.
  • Some pupils have Sensory Needs so an appreciation and empathy towards is needed.
  • The numbers of pupils with complex needs is increasing and that includes young people with physical needs so as the new SEN Teaching Assistant you may need to support in this area as well.
