Job Title-TRAINING OFFICER (Police Officer)**

In return you will be trained to the highest standard in order to deliver our training programmes, which include personal safety and first aid training with the potential to diversify and deliver method of entry, health and safety and other programmes.


As a trainer within the physical training department you will use your extensive knowledge, skills and abilities to work with colleagues, partners and community groups, to research, design and deliver learning and development programmes.


You will work alongside physical training colleagues on a regional and national level to ensure that our programmes are of the highest quality and support operational delivery.

By joining the team, you will have an exciting first-hand influence on newly appointed frontline employees, as well as developing existing officers and staff members within core and specialist operational arenas.

You need to be an excellent communicator.

Be able to deal effectively with people in larger groups and on a one to one basis including using technology.

You will be able to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism as outlined within our Mission and Vision.


Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:


Essential:


  • Good knowledge of Diversity and Inclusion issues and legislation
  • Experience of using basic IT systems including Windows based technology
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to ensure clear, accurate and appropriate sharing of information.
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritising when required and taking initiative to resolve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and manage effective working relationships across a spectrum of stakeholders, interdependencies and customers internal and external
  • Experience of working in collaboration with partner agencies, particularly public and third sector
  • Demonstrate competence of working to deadlines and delivering results through effective planning and organisation of work and resources, with mínimal supervision
  • Physically fit and capable of passing the Police Job Related Fitness Test to Level 6:3 (multistage 15 metre bleep test)
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Desirable:


  • Have a training qualification as a minimum of Level 3 Award in Education and Training
  • Hold a Level 2 or higher physical training qualification
  • Hold a training qualification or other recognised instructor / trainers' qualifications in personal safety, method of entry, health & safety or first aid training
  • Previous experience of training design and delivery
  • Evidence of challenging inappropriate behaviour/conduct
  • Knowledge of learning and development tools, techniques and best practice
  • Understanding of blended training approaches
  • Understanding of training and development principles, including quality assurance and continued professional development
  • Health & Safety Risk Assessor
  • TAQA assessor qualified
  • IOSH / NEBOSH trained
  • Experience of environmental scanning to embrace operational practices, technology and legislation.

Hours of Work and Flexibility


The role is based at Tally Ho Training Centre in Edgbaston, however individual will be require to deliver training from different training sites across the force area on a daily basis.

The core delivery hours will range from earlies and late, Sunday to Saturday with the inclusion of shifts. Flexible or part-time working patterns maybe considered based on organisational capacity

  • The applicant will be required to travel to deliver training, attend meetings, forums, workshops etc. across the region and nationally and use of their own vehicle or public transport maybe necessary
  • Travelling expenses are paid in accordance with WMP policy

Vetting


Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.


Medical (Operational)


Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.


This is an operational role, there will be opportunities to work in varying operational policing environments in order to develop and maintain links to enhance the contextualisation of the training which we deliver.
