Salary - up to £54,619 (including HCLA where appropriate)

Office - Flexible,Based in either our office in Canary Wharf, London (with a minimum requirement of two days per week in the office to be eligible to receive the London HCLA) or agile/home-basedfrom anywhere in the UK


The lead health economist manages the work of the health economics team, including providing health economics analyses on a range of exciting and high-profile projects.

They are responsible for evaluating innovation such as digital health solutions and medical technologies. This includes developing models to assess the cost effectiveness of interventions; producing budget impact models; and supporting complex decision making and resource allocation across the health and care system

They are a champion of professionalising and advancing NHS health economics. They will publish their work where appropriate and contribute to scientific conferences whenever possible.

Reporting to the Chief of Health Economics and Outcomes Research you will form part of an expert team and your reposnibilitues will include:

  • Developing logic models and evaluation frameworks including mixed method approaches to evaluate innovation such as medical devices and digital solutions
  • Generating evidence to inform the adoption of innovations
  • Providing advanced health economics and analytical services to clients, supporting the delivery of health economics services to both public and private sectors
  • Designing and developing transparent and userfriendly health economic models
  • Performing systematic literature reviews
  • Using RWD to inform evaluations. Analysing, synthesising and presenting data extracted from health and social care databases
  • Actively contributing to The HEU's, and your, public profile and presence through posters, abstracts, academic publications and presentations at conferences, events and events
  • Developing proposals to meet client project briefs for new business opportunities and services
  • Contributing to one strategic function at HEU such as Quality Assurance
  • Be an active member of the senior team ( All HEU Leads)
  • Line manages senior health economists

Key responsibilities


The post holder will undertake the following duties:
Health economics function

  • Select an appropriate health economic approach, design and development of transparent and userfriendly economic models such budget impact models, costeffectiveness models
  • Develop logic models and evaluation frameworks including mixed method approaches to evaluate medicines and technologies such as medical devices and digital health solutions
  • Support the delivery of health economics services to both public and private sectors
  • Perform systematic and targeted literature reviews
  • Undertake health economics outcome research studies including the syntheses of evidence e.g., perform metaanalyses
  • Analysis, synthesis and presentation of data extracted from health and social care databases (real world data) to inform models (e.g., budget impact, CEA)
