As an Apprentice Environmental Advisor, you will become a part of the Environment team, supporting the A428 project where we are upgrading the route between the Black Cat roundabout and Caxton Gibbet.

A new 10 mile dual carriageway will connect the Black Cat roundabout and Caxton Gibbet roundabout. The scheme will provide quicker, safer and more reliable journeys.


You will gain experience in many aspects of environment and sustainability management but also wider exposure to the delivery of this leading civil engineering project.


What will you be doing?
Full on the job training and development will be provided and you will receive ongoing support and guidance in your career development

  • Understand the client and Skanska's Environment and Sustainability policies, processes and statutory requirements
  • Work towards monitoring and collecting data, to aid reporting on performance against the project's targets
  • Undertake internal inspections and audits, including targeted risk monitoring, both on site and within the supply chain
  • Provide environmental compliance advice to various teams working on the project
  • Identify and provide training and upskilling required to fulfil environmental responsibilities of various delivery team roles
  • Identify and communicate environmental and sustainability risks and mitigations, assisting with the review and undertaking of risk assessments and method statements
  • Maintain good working relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, Natural England, Environment Agency and others
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement to achieve contract targets, particularly in reducing carbon and enhancing biodiversity

What qualification will you be studying towards?
Through day release or block release to a nominated University, Skanska will provide support and funding to help you achieve a Level 6 Environmental Practitioner Degree


What will we need from you?

  • 3 Alevels at Grade A C, including Maths and a Physical Science, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent level 3 qualification.
  • 5 GCSEs at Grades 59 including Maths, English and Science or their equivalent for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship
  • Passion for the environment and sustainability
  • You will enjoy working with other people
  • Enthusiasm to learn
  • New ideas to help us innovate and work better

Where will you be working?


The first two years of your apprenticeship will be based at our A428 site in Cambridgeshire, however, you will also be encouraged to visit our head office in Leavesden and other sites and projects during this time.
