In a nutshell


The Experience Designer is responsible for the creation of digital designs (conceptual through to actual) for a portfolio of the Banks' digital products.

This may include our transactional and non-transactional websites and apps, or new concepts, services and experience areas that need to be explored, defined and developed and continuously improved.

The role includes customer research, digital design from sketch to pixel, layouts and components on our digital estate.


In addition, an Experience Designer is involved in supporting development and maintenance of the Bank's longer term digital roadmaps, including collaboration across Sainsbury's Bank & Argos Financial Services and the wider Sainsbury's Digital community.


What you need to do

  • Design of bank website pages, app pages, journeys, flow, layouts and components
  • Maintain the bank elements of the pattern library
  • Champion the voice of the customer, organising and conducting user research and user testing to inform concepts and validate designs, finding insights through analysis of results, and bringing stakeholders on the same journey
  • Work with stakeholders and project/product teams through a usercentred design approach whilst balancing business challenges and strategic vision
  • Driving adherence to customer experience and other related principles/standards in digital product design and delivery (e.g. accessibility, security, native design patterns, etc)
  • Supporting enforcement of Group (incl. any SB variations) digital style guidelines, ensuring adherence to latest design patterns and user expectations, and contributing back to the Group
  • Daytoday design and delivery of digital product feature visual designs (incl. wireframes / screenflows (UX) through to detailed (hifidelity) user interface designs e.g. widgets, transitions)
  • Analysis of customer journey data to identify areas for improvement within existing customer journeys and produce recommendations / options
  • Woking closely with colleagues and 3rd parties / agencies to commission and accept digital design deliverables
  • Provide expert advice and guidance (based on experience and evidence) to a wide variety of stakeholders on digital experience design
  • Support development and maintenance of the broader SB digital vision, solutions and roadmap
  • Bringing external viewpoints and insights associated to digital product design to the bank (e.g. via research, competitor analysis, qual/quant data, consultation, participation in industry events)

What you need to know and show

  • Experience as a service, UX, product or UI designer ideally for a big brand / financial services organisation
  • High level of innovation, creativity and problemsolving skills
  • Methods and practices of usability research and confidence in conducting research and interpreting results
  • Adept at collaborating with and influencing stakeholders through a range of methods, including workshops championing the voice of the customer whilst balancing business objectives
  • Utilise a broad range of UX tools and techniques
  • A thorough technical understanding of inclusive design frameworks
  • Knowledge of best practices and emerging digital technologies and trends
  • Strong attention to detail with a desire for excellence in delivery
  • Wide range of experience in usercentred design, usability and accessibility best practices (incl. web accessibility standards (WCAG))
  • The ability to advise stakeholders on how to best realise business, brand and digital experience goals through the creation of bestinclass user experiences
  • Proactive collaboration with project & product teams, the design community and senior stakeholders alike
