A challenging SEN school based in Derby City are looking for 2 full time behaviour support assistants to work with challenging students both on a 1-2-1 basis and in small groups, both roles are to start ASAP and have the potential to go temp to perm.

You must have experience of working with teenagers although it doesn't need to have been in a school setting. If you have experience as a youth worker or support worker you are encouraged to apply.


You will need to have an engaging and positive personality with strong behaviour management skills and excellent communication skills as the students will be of a challenging nature.

Being able to build rapport is essential for this role, the students that you will be working with will either be at risk of exclusion or will have already been excluded from the normal timetabled lessons and will be doing their lessons in the schools internal exclusion provision.

You will also be utilised to support the schools patrol system, which will involve escorting or removing students from lessons and supporting them in the rest department.


The role is a very rewarding role but also requires the right skill set and mind set so strong characters will be be needed.

The school itself is easily accessible both by car and public transport.

Your duties will include:


  • Managing the behaviour of pupils in line with the school's behavioural policy.
  • Respond to any questions from pupils to support and develop their learning.
  • Being flexible to the schools and pupils needs.
  • Report back to the key person in charge with any key information about pupils behaviours and progress.

The Ideal person:


  • Previous experience working in a PRU, Alternative Provision, Youthwork and Social Care field.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with students in a classroom setting
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage art supplies and plan lessons effectively.
  • Excellent reading, writing and numeracy skills.
  • Educated to Degree level (essential).
  • A passion for helping young pupils progress within their education.
  • Adaptable to a change in circumstances.
  • Dynamic and holds strong classroom management.
