Salary and contract term:
£14.10 per hour on a casual basis

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Duty Porter to join the Rhodes Trust.
This role is responsible for implementing the safety and security policies of Rhodes House, the welcome and care of staff, scholars and guests whilst they are on site, and for ensuring the smooth running of office activity and the set-up of the House for commercial and Trust events.

The role will be responsible for;

Front of House Porters Lodge:Ensuring that the Porters Lodge is staffed at all times and that entry and exit procedures are adhered to for the safe management of all those on site. Ensuring that all are greeted in a manner in keeping with the professional expectations of the Trust and that visitors are connected with hosts in a swift and efficient way

Enquiries:Responding to enquiries from staff, the general public, Scholars and Trustees on a daily basis and ensure that enquiries are dealt with in a prompt and helpful manner, promoting a professional and positive image of the Trust

Events:Safety and logistics of commercial and Trust events, working with on-site caterers and ensuring function rooms are set-up prior to the start of each event with the furniture and equipment setup as detailed in the Running Sheet

Maintenance and cleaning:Assisting with emergency maintenance problems by liaising with contractors and supervising any on-site contractors. Ensuring that the communal areas of the House are kept tidy and directing the on-site cleaning team as required especially during events

Safety and security:Assisting in building evacuations when Fire Alarms have been activated and liaise with Oxford University Security Services (OUSS) and emergency services as and when needed. Respond to accidents, near misses, emergencies and incidents, e.g. accident, fire, gas leak, flooding, and security issues

Other duties: Receive mail and goods delivered to the Lodge, Receive and log all lost property handed into the Lodge ensure items are handled in a sensitive and appropriate manner, Optional duties if qualified to drive: Chauffeur/driver duties for the Warden, VIPs, Trustees, Secretaries, Scholars, members of staff, and others.
Essential skills, experience and qualifications:
- Experience of working in a customerfacing environment, ideally a frontofhouse or reception role
- Possess a high conversational standard of spoken English
- Have a positive and proactive attitude
- An understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace
- Be professional and courteous in all aspects
- Be able to work without direct supervision
- Be able to work independently as well as part of a small team
- Willing to provide cover in any emergencies or security emergencies and cover for colleagues who are absent due to illness
- If an emergency situation arises, the job holder will need to respond with due urgency and, if and where required, coordinate the evacuation of any mobilityimpaired people.
Desirable Criteria
- A full driving licence is desirable but not essential
- Security experience
- IT proficiency in MS Outlook and Word
- 3 Day
- First Aid at Work (or other First Aid training course if required)
- Fire Marshal
- Emergency Evacuation training
- Manual handling training
- Defibrillator training
