JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
KITCHEN ASSISTANT
RESPONSIBLE TO:
MANAGER
QUALIFICATIONS:
CERTIFICATE OF BASIC FOOD HYGIENCE
AIM:
To participate as a member of the kitchen staff in
Providing the highest possible standard of food provision
At St Michael's and act at all times in accordance with the
Agreed code of conduct.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1) To assist cook in charge/cook on a daily basis to attain the highest possible
Standard of catering within the Home.
2) To carry out daily work in accordance with specific routine e.g. prepare
Vegetables in morning/prepare suppers.
3) To carry out the daily and weekly cleaning as set out in written schedule within the kitchen adhering to COSHH regulations.
4) To carry out work complying with mandatory regulations of Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and Environmental Health.
5) Be prepared to be flexible within the working environment, working any duties within the kitchen assistant remit.
6) To be aware of the need for good hygiene practices and ensure high standards of;
a. Personal hygiene
b. Kitchen hygiene in the preparation and service of food
c. Cleanliness of equipment and premises.
7) Any other relevant duties as required for the efficient running of the kitchen.
8) Willing and capable to be flexible and adjust to various duties and hours.
9) Capable and willing to work on own initiative.
10) To carryout dishwashing tasks, manually or using dishwasher.
Health & Safety
11) Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
12) Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area is carried out effectively.
13) Understand, and ensure the implementation of the Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
14) Report to Home Manager, or Maintenance Person, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazard.
15) Promote safe working practice in the kitchen.
16) Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
17) Adhere to all St Michael's policies and procedures at all times.
18) Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
19) Undertake mandatory training and other training as appropriate
20) Attend meetings as appropriate. It is expected that staff will attend a minimum of 2 staff meetings annually.
21) Be aware of emergency procedures, including fire precautions and drill.
22) To adopt a neat, clean and tidy appearance at all times and wear the
Appropriate as supplied by the home.
23) Policies and procedures are adhered to and to be familiar with the Employee Handbook.
Communication
- Liaise with other staff as appropriate.
- Attend annual appraisal interviews with Head of Department, identifying any personal training needs.
