We're now recruiting for a General Assistant to join our small, friendly team in our lovely established supported house for older people (maximum capacity: 17) in Abbeyfield House, Redland.

Hours of Work
Your usual working hours are normally
:10am - 2pm Alternate weeks (Monday - Friday)
Additional hours of work may be agreed with you by the House Manager.


General Information


The General Assistant assists the House Manager in an Abbeyfield House and helps to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.


The aims of the Society are:

  • To provide support and companionship for older people
  • To make the house a focal point for the community

Principal Duties

  • To assist with the serving of lunch and clearing up afterwards.
  • To help cook lunch and prepare tea as required.
  • To assist with keeping the day room, dining room and communal areas clean and tidy.
  • To ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Any other duties as required by the House Manager on a day to day or adhoc basis, such as some administrative tasks etc.
  • Responsibility for providing and promoting an active programme of activities for residents alongside your Colleagues.
  • To maintain confidentiality and act in the best interests of the Society at all times.
  • In the event of a health crisis, such as COVID19, you must ensure that you are following procedures for testing and health and safety in accordance with government and Society guidelines.

You are entitled to pro-rata holiday pay based on the full time holiday entitlement per year of 20 days plus 8 Bank Holidays.


Personal Specification

  • A caring person who is compassionate and understands the needs of older people.
  • Able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations.
  • Able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard.
  • Have at least basic IT skills; you'll sometimes need to use IT systems.
  • A strong and supportive team player.
  • A clear DBS certificate entitling you to work in a regulated environment.

Experience

  • Are experienced in working in a similar role.
  • Are experienced in working within services for older people.
