Description
As the Sierra Leone Liaison and Grant Compliance Officer, you will support the ministry of COTN International (COTNI) by facilitating communication and healthy partnership between senior leadership of COTN Sierra Leone (including the Board and Country Director) and
COTNI, in accordance with the Christian principles and ethos within which the charity operates. You will coordinate COTNI's response to the needs expressed by COTN Sierra Leone (financial assistance, training needs, resource requests etc), as well as monitoring
adherence to internationally agreed standards and covenants.

You will represent the children and programmes of COTN Sierra Leone to the greater COTN family and as part of the UK & Ireland team you will help build the profile of our ministry locally.


The international dimension of the role is such that while being managed by the UK & Ireland Director you will also report to the CEO of COTNI.

This role is supported by grant funding received from COTNI.

This is a work from home position with weekly meetings in Belfast.

You will be responsible for...

  • Meeting regularly with leadership of COTN Sierra Leone and managing information flows with COTNI.
  • Assisting COTN Sierra Leone in strategic and annual operational planning and presenting financial needs, project plans, training needs etc to supporting partners.
  • Ensuring effective communication between senior leadership of COTN Sierra Leone and COTNI, including facilitating regular meetings.
  • Being a knowledgeable information source on Sierra Leone and all the details of the COTN ministry there.
  • Travelling to Sierra Leone each year to build relationships, conduct training, facilitate communication, and conduct assessments with COTN Sierra Leone staff and Board.
- (When working in Sierra Leone) Representing COTNI at meetings of management staff, COTN Sierra Leone Board, and other functions as requested.

  • Identifying new partnerships that can help COTN Sierra Leone move forward strategically.
  • Facilitating the completion of programmatic audits with COTN Sierra Leone to ensure compliance with Standards of Service, Partnership Covenant, and Grant Agreement.
  • Tracking COTN Sierra Leone's budget performance and compliance with COTNI grant requirements through analysis of monthly financial reporting and regular communication with COTNI Finance Staff and COTN Sierra Leone leadership.
  • Participating with the teams at COTNI and COTN UK & Ireland in the development of annual plans, improving processes, raising funds and representing the ministry at events and conferences.

You must have...

  • Third level qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience of international Christian ministry (in a paid or voluntary capacity).
  • Minimum of two years' experience in roles involving strategic planning, project management, partnership development and/or ministry development
  • Knowledge of issues and needs among children in Sierra Leone
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work crossculturally with sensitivity
  • Excellent numerical skills with the ability to review and analyse budgets and finance reports
  • Ability to build a network for spiritual / prayer support
  • Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to work on own initiative and to deadlines
  • Attention to detail and drive to thoroughness
  • Personal faith in Jesus, strong commitment to prayer, and a passion for reaching the world with the gospel
  • Strong commitment to uphold the vision and mission statements of the employer
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Respectfully assertive, ensuring that tasks are completed to a high standard
  • Ability to run face to face and remote training and to mentor international teams
  • Personal integrity and trustworthiness
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including evening and occasional weekend working

  • Experience working for a charity or Christian mission agency in a similar role
  • Experience of organisational leadership and/or governance
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Experience of public speaking including in a church context
  • Fundraising experience
  • Bookkeeping skills
  • Full driving licence with access to a car
