We currently have one full time vacancy post for 37.5 hours per week, in our busy Outpatients Department, working Monday - Friday including some evening clinics, with a view of having a 7 day service in the future.

We are looking for an individual who is an enthusiastic team player, caring as well as hard working to join our nursing team.

The post involves working within a busy OPD general across all three sites, Royal, Broadgreen and Aintree.


The nursing role involves rotating and working throughout all specialities in Outpatients and assisting with patient in environments such as, general medical and surgical clinics.

Experience in Outpatients would be desirable, but training will be given.


We aim to provide the highest standards of care to patients in return we offer a stimulating and challenging role with full support of the multidisciplinary team in outpatients.

Provision of patients toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.

Support of patients in managing incontinence and promotion of continence.

Serving of patient's meals drinks and snacks. Assisting / feeding patients as necessary.

The recording of patient's dietary intake when indicated in the patient's plan of care.


Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the Registered nurse in conjunction with the patient's plan of care.


Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from your mandatory training and in relation to the patient's manual handling plan.

Obtaining specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.

Undertake the non-complex dressing of wounds (in accordance with identified competencies and in conjunction with the plan of care).

Prepare and maintain environments for clinical treatments and investigations.


Assisting with various procedures under the direction of the Registered Practitioner and preparing trolleys for clinical procedures as required in line with the Trust policies.


Prepare patients for treatments, investigations or procedures including offering support, answering questions appropriate to own knowledge/experience and assisting in recovery.

Chaperoning and escorting patients to clinical departments within the hospital and to other hospitals for investigations.

General and clinical observations of patients, reporting anything untoward to Registered Nursing Staff, to include:

  • Recording of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respiration rate
  • Oxygen saturation monitoring
  • Recording of peak flow
  • Heights
  • Weights
  • BMI
Undertake blood glucose monitoring and venepuncture upon the direction of the registered nurse.

Preparation of clinic suites prior to the start of clinic sessions.

Actively participates in the smooth running of Consultant and Practitioner clinics and ambulance lounge with mínimal supervision.


Preparing patients' notes ensuring test results are obtained and are present and ensure that x-rays have been brought up by porters prior to commencement of clinic.


Documentation in patients nursing records of any care given, ensuring the entry is countersigned by the Registered Nurse responsible for the patient at the time.


Initiate Basic Life Support techniques as appropriate and provides assist to the registered nurse as required in prolonged resuscitation situations.

Contribute to the development of Essence of Care and benchmarking.

Provide a verbal handover of the patients care under the direct supervision of the registered nurse.

Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and carers.
