Background to Forestry England and Yorkshire District.
Forestry England is the government body responsible for managing the nation's forests for people, nature, climate and the economy.

Forestry England's Yorkshire District covers an area from Hartlepool to Spurn Head, stretching over the North York Moors National Park, and the Leeds metropolitan area to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The District is responsible for the sustainable management of a 21,000-hectare estate and the district Team currently consists of over 70 employees supported by dedicated volunteers.

The main visitor facilities are located at the Dalby Forest Visitor Centre.
The district's estate receives over 400K visits per year.

Most are for informal recreation such as family time, walking and cycling, but visits also include education and participation in outdoor pursuits provided by commercial partners.

We host several motor sport and other large sporting events.

Managing these opportunities when significant areas of the estate are either designated, or form part of designated landscapes requires sensitivity and regular dialogue with stakeholders and user groups.
