are recruiting Manual Notetakers to work with higher education students at Cardiff Met, with an immediate start for 12 hours per week.

As a Manual Notetaker you will provide support for students who require notes to be taken on their behalf, for example because they have a physical impairment or mental health condition.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- To take accurate and complete notes in lectures, seminars and other learning environments as required
- To customise note taking to the individual learning needs of students
- To ensure that notes taken demonstrate high literacy skills, are clear, neat and well organised and free from spelling or grammatical errors
- To be punctual and reliable
- To understand the needs of students with disabilities in a higher education environment
- To observe boundaries and maintain a professional role as a notetaker
- To maintain student confidentiality
- To work within the policies and procedures of the institution
- To act in the best interests of learners at all times
- To ensure that any concerns are addressed in a timely manner and are referred to the Support Manager
- To manage paper work effectively, including accurate time sheets, and promptly submitting them at the end of each month
- To attend CPD events and actively manage personal development in agreement with the Support Manager.
Qualifications/training required:
- A Level 2 qualification in notetaking:
- OCN Level 2 Certificate in Notetaking for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education
- OCN Level 3 Certificate in Notetaking for Students with Disabilities in Higher Education
- OCN London Note Taking for Disabled Students in Higher Education
- Level 2
- LOCN Level 3 Certificate in Notetaking for Disabled Students in HE
- Completed training through an institution that results in a successful final skills assessment.
- Or other training, including at a HE institution, delivered by an appropriately qualified trainer who can demonstrate a relevant qualification in notetaking and which leads to a final skills assessment and certificate.
- Other formal UK notetaking qualifications should be considered
- Educated to at least second year degree level
Other skills:
- Clear and legible handwriting at speed
- Ability to present notes accurately and in a presentable manner
- Capacity to listen and capture the main points of a lecture while simultaneously taking notes.
- Ability to work quickly and under time restrictions
- An excellent knowledge of English, including accurate spelling and grammar skills
- Punctuality and reliability, with good organisational skills
- Ability to work flexibly and autonomously
- Disability awareness.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy and empathy for others.
- Ability to work autonomously and use initiative.
- Experience of studying or working in a Higher or Further Education setting
