The Priory, near to the picturesque village of Abbotskerswell in Devon, is a retirement village that offers residents a uniquely historic setting which has been refurbished to the highest standards and is situated within stunning grounds. The Priory contains 44 one and two-bedroom apartments and cottages, all of which have been designed with comfort and ease of living in mind.


The Priory is seeking a
Cook/Chef to join our team.


Are you an experienced Cook or Chef who has a passion for preparing and cooking traditional meals? The
Cook will assist with everything from menu planning, stock ordering, stock rotation, ensuring absolute cleanliness and order is in accordance with HACCP rules.


Hours: 25 hours per week permanent to cover every Sunday 08:00-17:00, Monday to Thursday lunchtime 10:30-14:30 and one evening shift a month.


Principal Responsibilities:


  • To prepare meals of the highest standard.
  • Ensuring exceptionally high standards of food hygiene and Health and Safety in the kitchen.
  • Ensuring the kitchen is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ordering of all supplies
  • Awareness of portion control and waste control.
  • Providing high levels of customer service with all internal & external customers.
  • Preparation of menu's and allergen information
  • Ensuring all daily checklists and HACCP are completed (i.e. date labelling, temperature checks, probe calibration).
  • Dealing with deliveries.

Key Skills & Requirements:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the COSHH policy.
  • Qualified to Food hygiene level
  • Experience of stock ordering.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of customer needs and requirements i.e. allergens, medication etc.
  • Practical experience in a kitchen environment.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and in a multidiscipline team.
