About this Role


The governors of St Michael's Catholic School are seeking a Head of Sixth Form with the passion and ethos required to lead the pastoral care of students across our Catholic school in Aylesbury.


Leading a year group of 180 students, you will be one of the most important people in the lives of the young people you are called serve through this role, establishing the culture and a true sense of belonging for all.

You will be the fiercest advocate for the wellbeing of the students in your care, ensuring their talents shine through a commitment to high standards and a level of care that is unparalleled.

Every child remembers their Head of Sixth Form

You will be a visible presence across the community, leading with love, courage, professionalism, and good humour.

You will have a particular concern for any student who is disadvantaged in any way and you will see it as your mission that no child is left behind.

St Michaels Aylesbury campus is starting a Sixth Form, with students starting from September 2024.

We wish to appoint our Head of Sixth Form in the January to We are looking to employ a Head of Sixth Form our Aylesbury Secondary campus, this is a permanent role starting January 2024.

General responsibilities of the role:


  • Enhance students' academic performance
  • Ensure a high quality of pastoral care and student support in the Sixth Form
  • To cultivate and develop selfreview of the Sixth Form provision so as to ensure excellent standards of learning, progress and pastoral care
  • To line manage the Sixth Form Tutors and Assistant Head of Sixth Form
  • To maintain effective discipline through implementation of the school's agreed procedures; to maintain good order and discipline among the students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere
  • Promote the Sixth Form to ensure retention of existing Year 11 pupils and the recruitment of external applicants
  • Lead and manage the UCAS process
  • Oversee the running of the Sixth Form area
  • To implement the school's agreed policies
  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact
  • To support and implement the Health and Safety policy and procedures of the school at all times


You will be joining a vibrant leadership team with the drive and determination to see that you are supported to do the best that is possible.
