Description
We have a great opportunity for a Land Agent Assistant to join our Land Agents Department.

You will assist the Land Agent to help protect, maintain and improve the quality of raw water resources derived from the company's catchments.

You will promote sustainable land management with the development and implementation of strategies to optimise the economic, environmental and social benefits generated from Company landholdings.


You will be involved in most aspects of rural estate management including property management, agri-environment schemes, supporting biodiversity aims (including SSSI &SPA), tree planting, improving wildlife habitats, facilitating water catchment regeneration schemes and other capital investment and maintenance work across the estate.


The successful applicant provides support to the Land Agent in the Management of the Company's rural estate within the West Area Catchment.

Under the direction of the company Land Agent you will assist in the management of the Company's estate portfolio which includes:


  • A managed estate area of circa 28,000 acres
  • Farms
  • Sporting Leases
  • Bareland Lets
  • Grazing licences
  • Fishing Leases
  • Residential properties

Job Accountabilities:


  • Assist the Company to provide the North West of England with clean and safe drinking water supplies through responsible land and asset operation
  • Promote Agricultural best practice in line with the Water Code published by DEFRA
  • Undertake minor rent reviews, lease and licence renewals and new lettings
  • Help manage income collection and pursue arrears as appropriate, meeting specific performance targets on both income and arrears
  • Assist in the agreement and implementation of a programme of revenue and capital investment to increase the value of both the estate and rental income. Monitor expenditure within both the Capital and Revenue budgets and ensure value for money
  • Assist in the management of all farm/agricultural tenants and licensees to ensure compliance with terms of tenancy agreement and to monitor and reduce the risk of pollution
  • Maintain all rural property records/databases to ensure that records are accurate and up to date
  • Investigate, create and develop new sources of income
  • Work in close liaison with Catchment and Process Operations personnel in the implementation of projects requiring estate management support and report back to the Land Agent mon progress
  • Work towards the APC in a timely manner with the aim of attending final assessment of the APC at the nearest appropriate date following completion of 24 months of relevant experience
  • Working under supervision, with tenants on a regular basis and with outside bodies, eg Natural England, RSPB, Local Planning Authorities, Company's Stakeholders.

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Royal Institute of mChartered Surveyors accredited degree in Rural Estate Management is a preference but not a necessity
  • Proven experience in Agriculture and Rural Estate Management
  • Good understanding of the legal aspects of Rural Estate Management
  • Sound commercial approach
  • Commitment and resilience to work under pressure with an interesting and varied workload
  • Ability to balance conflicting interests, particularly when reconciling operational requirements for clean water with sporting, agricultural, recreation and conservation
  • Excellent Planning skills required for assistance in the development of Estate plans, Catchment Management Plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • IT skills with good knowledge of Microsoft packages and GIS mapping system
  • Full Driving Licence.
