Crew and Visitor Services Assistant


Location:

Fixed Term, Full-Time or Part-Time


Salary:
Minimum Wage (currently £9.50, rising to £10.42 April 2023)

Please note this is a combined role.


Main Objectives and Information For Crew

To assist the Skipper with the safe and efficient running of the vessel and to offer all visitors the best service possible.

Crew will undergo training on each vessel and will be expected to have good working knowledge of all our boats and the safety differences between them.

Customer service is an integral part of this role and providing information on about the 'Steamers', our timetable, and services as well as information about the surrounding area with a view to enhancing our customers' experience.

All crew are required to be friendly, enthusiastic and vigilant with good communication skills. Working well within a friendly well-established team is an essential characteristic.

Our services operate 7 days a week throughout the year and all crew will be expected to work up to 5 days in any given week including weekends and bank holidays.

Crew members must also work in the pier houses and at any of our locations around the Ullswater Valley such as Glenridding Pier House and Pooley Bridge Pier House.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow instructions of the Skipper
• Designated boat crewing duties such as: ropes, tickets checking/selling and passenger counting
• Assist all passengers with embarking and disembarking the vessel in the safest possible manner
• Bar sales and till reconciliation
• Stock control and rotation onboard
• Ensuring high standards of cleanliness on all vessels
• Maintain a good working knowledge of all safety features and emergency procedures
• Provide information for customers in a polite and helpful manner
• Assist the pier house staff as necessary throughout the day

Main Objectives and Information for Visitor Services Assistant

To provide our visitors with the best service possible, involving ticket sales and information, retail and refreshment sales and general information about out our services and local area.

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic staff with good communication skills who enjoy working as part of a team in a busy environment.

The 'Steamers' operate seven days a week and staff will be expected to work on a (up to) five-day rota including bank holidays and weekends.

Work locations will be Glenridding or Pooley Bridge Pier Houses with occasional work based around the Ullswater Valley. This role reports to the Visitor Services Officers and the General Manager.


Key Responsibilities

• Maintain communication with our vessels by VHF radio
• Ticket sales and passenger management around our piers
• Till sales (retail and refreshments), till balancing and reconciliation, cash handling and card machine sales
• Restock retail and refreshments, manage the stock rotation of perishable goods and maintain a tidy and efficient stock room
• Ensure high standard of cleanliness in and around our pier houses, car park and picnic areas
• Provide advice and suggestions to passengers with refence to walking routes, sailing times and services in the area taking into consideration each passengers needs and abilities regarding access to vessels and activities
• Complete opening and closing tasks preparation for the day and cleaning and closing the pier house after the last sailing
• Provide a friendly and knowledgeable service to our passengers both in person and over the phone
