The Growth Company's Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter have an exciting opportunity for a Good Employment Adviser who will deliver high quality good employment advice to a portfolio of employers and senior managers of organisations seeking to improve their employment practices.


The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter is a voluntary membership and assessment scheme that aims to raise employment standards across GM, for all organisations of any size, sector or geography. Launched in 2019, the Charter is a Mayoral initiative that has now engaged with c.1,700 employers across the city and has c.700 Supporters and over 100 full Members. As well as working directly with employers to support their journey towards implementing better employment standards, the Charter has created a good employment 'movement' with regular network events, workshops, annual awards, the Good Employment 'Chatter' podcast as well as an annual Good Employment Week. The Charter is delivered through a small team of dedicated staff with the support of a wide range of partners and employers with the aim of making Greater Manchester synonymous with good work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support employers in the Supporter registration process and initial action planning and referrals
  • Helping employers to continually improve their employment practice, providing opportunities to network with other Supporters and Members of the Charter
  • Working with Supporter employers to collect the required evidence to support their progress towards management and to present this to the Charter Advisory Panel and the Charter Board in support of an Employer's progression
  • Capture good practice and emerging trends to help develop supporting content for the Supporters' Network and areas for the Charter to develop
  • Undertake detailed diagnostics on a business or a detailed diagnostic on a particular functional or business area using various tools and methods to capture baseline data from clients and identify needs, which should be addressed to improve performance
  • Undertake detailed discussions with client to understand their business issues and making sound recommendations for appropriate actions that will lead to better employment practice
  • Develop and maintain a network of business/professional contacts that generate personal referrals
  • Work with the GMCA, Board members and other significant stakeholders and sectors to promote the work of the Charter

  • A strong communicator, both face to face (for one to one & larger presentations) and in written form

Skills Required:


  • Substantial work experience, including significant work directly with 'customers' and stakeholder engagement and management
  • Proven track record in managing the range of employment issues associated with organisational development and change
  • Professional experience and approach to managing and delivering organisational assessment, advice and development
  • Account management skills, presentation skills both written and oral
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Proven planning, organizational, administrative and project management skills
