About the position:


Goodbye Kansas Studios, Stockholm is seeking a Senior Realtime Technical Artist to join our team to work on amazing projects across Cinematics, VFX and Realtime.

The key attribute being an absolute passion for realtime technology and its implementation in production workflows, combining with the team to reach visual quality and run-time performance targets in-engine.

Working as part of our dedicated realtime department you will support the Realtime Supervisor manage deliveries for all realtime projects, help define workflow enhancements and contribute to the creation of tools/processes to improve the integration of realtime methodologies.

This role is hybrid/remote towards our Stockholm studio.

What you will get to do:

  • Creative shot work in realtime engines, assembly, lighting/look-dev, optimisation and management of scenes/sequences at the highest fidelity per project specifications
  • Help evaluate if current best practices cover the needs of the project, identify R&D requirements and pipeline problems and communicate to the Realtime Supervisor and/or Pipeline department
  • Play a vital role during preproduction phases and establish any projectspecific technical workflows
  • Own the integration of client assets into the GBK pipeline, and conform GBK assets to client requirements
  • Flag any issues or blockers to producers and take point to solve them together with the client and GBK leads
  • Support the GBK Artist teams with technical feedback, troubleshooting, tool creation and delivery preparations.
  • Responsible for establishing the technical requirements and specifications for Asset build and how assets are deployed inengine. Liaise with department Leads making sure data is preserved in hand offs between departments and when deployed inengine.
  • Aligning with Animation, CFX, Lighting, FX approach combined will function inengine according to quality and performance targets. Approve technical solutions provided by department Leads making sure data is preserved in hand offs between departments and when deployed inengine.
  • Support executive producers and producers in the bidding process and project planning
  • Render settings, DoF & Motion blur supported by Lead Tech Artist / Light Lead Render Layers and AOVs supported by Lead Tech Artist / Light Lead & Comp Lead
  • Monitor performance/optimisation, responsible for managing that all assets and elements combined are renderable/performant and communicating limits to each department Lead.

What you bring:


  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist on AAA games or similar realtime experiences, including as a Lead/Senior
  • Highly proficient in the use of Unreal Engine and use of Unreal on commercial projects
  • Experience creating realtime Assets and Levels including Lookdevelopment, FX, physics and realtime rendering optimization.
  • Knowledge of Cinematic Lighting Techniques and how to implement them using Realtime technologies
  • A good eye for Lighting, Lookdevelopment and Realism
  • Extensive knowledge of Realtime rendering materials and textures
  • Familiarity with Perforce, Git or other version control systems
  • Knowledge of developing tools using Python, Blueprints or other programming methods

  • Exposure to Virtual Production projects/shoots
  • Experience with inengine physics for cloth and grooms
  • Experience with rigid body simulations and destruction using Chaos
  • Experience with 3D modelling, texturing, lighting, shaders, dynamics and similar
  • Experience with other art packages such as Houdini and Blender
  • Experience with HLSL or other shader languages
  • Experience with C++
  • Experience with Color management
