Description
This post has two elements.

  • 50% within the S2 Pathology network where the postholder will work with regional trainer groups to enhance the training experience of staff and ultimately improve recruitment and retention within the specialty. This might include exploring apprenticeship opportunities, delivering virtual training sessions, developing joint CPD sessions etc
  • 50% as part of the training team within Severn Pathology Infection Sciences.
Key aspects,

  • Coordinate and chair network-wide Infection Sciences training meetings
  • Develop and maintain links to professional bodies (i.e. IBMS, HEE) and Higher Education Institutions
  • Together with the Infection Sciences Management teams, develop the training portfolio for the Infection Sciences to meet workforce demands.
  • Supervise and monitor trainee BMS staff completing the HCPC certificate of competence.
  • In conjunction with discipline leads ensure the establishment, implementation and maintenance of training and competency programs, including competency re-assessment for all grades of staff within Infection Sciences

  • Work with existing Training Officers in developing & establishing competency programmes
  • Using Network roles recommend best practice in all areas of laboratory training to the Trusts in the Network
  • Support existing training team at Severn Pathology with the training of staff at all levels
  • Organise & chair Network Infection Sciences training meetings
  • Develop & maintain links to professional bodies / Higher Education Institutions
  • Participate in network, regional & national training meetings as appropriate
  • In conjunction with the Network management team, develop the training portfolio to meet workforce demands
  • Support Departmental Training Officer in developing / maintaining CPD activities within Infection Sciences & explore opportunities across the Network
  • Work with Network, Trusts & other external organisations to promote careers in pathology / healthcare sciences
  • Provide information periodically for Network management quality review.
  • Notify Laboratory Manager of problems encountered in the performance of duties
  • Work according to Trust & laboratory procedures
  • Work according to regulations & codes of practice governing aspects of Health & Safety
  • Participate in risk management of the department including reporting adverse incidents
  • Communicate with patients, clinicians, laboratory & nursing staff from North Bristol Trust & other NHS organisations / regulatory bodies regarding training issues

The Infection Science Laboratories are situated within the purpose-built Pathology Sciences Building at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust. The laboratory undertakes approximately 1.4 million tests per annum and overall employs 200 highly motivated and dedicated staff.
