Reporting to:

The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer's responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).


Introduction:


A Direct Payments client in the Crymych area is looking to employ 1 or 2 male Personal Assistants to support him with his care needs over 7 days.

This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the employer to manage their support and meet their care needs independently always with the employer's wellbeing and dignity as a priority.

The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the employer.

They should be able to support the employer to make his own decisions around his care needs and encourage him to maintain his independence.


The main duties to be included in this role are:

  • To prompt/support with aspects of personal care, oral hygiene, diet and fluid intake/prepare breakfast as requested by the employer
  • Prompt medication and supervise mental and physical health.
  • Prepare snacks/lunch of employers' choice and monitor intake of food and fluids.
  • The employer has a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes therefore; aspects of his diet will need to be closely monitored.
  • Prompting to choose healthier options to reduce hyper/hypoglycaemia.
  • Monitor/prompt medication administration of prescribed medications.
  • Monitor for urinary incontinence throughout the day as well as monitoring frequency.
  • If possible take the employer out to places of interest.
  • Additionally, to actively monitor and report concerns to the family or mental health services during visits
  • Monitor side effects of medication
  • Monitoring mental state and cognition
  • Needs may vary depending on mental state

The employer is looking for a personal assistant who fits the following person specifications:

  • Experience or knowledge of supporting someone with mental health issues
  • Welsh speaking preferred
  • Caring, patient and resilient
  • Responsible and honest with an awareness of the importance of confidentiality regarding all aspects of their employment
  • Good timekeeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
  • Good communicator
  • Able to develop and maintain a supportive relationship

Other Requirements:

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.

You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.


Benefits:

5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)

Sick pay at SSP rate

Training is provided if required.
