This novel post will provide a solid grounding in Emergency Medicine in a tertiary Major Trauma Centre while also providing the opportunity to work on the development and implementation of digital solutions.

This 12 month post will be split 70:30 between clinical duties and digital transformation.


The 30% of this post that will be dedicated to digital transformation will allow the successful applicant to pursue projects intended to improve processes and workflow to ensure a more positive patient experience.


This will primarily involve focusing on activities within the Emergency Department, working with our digital transformation group to implement changes in the clinical workplace.


The appointee will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify areas where digital solutions can improve care
  • Establish your own digital project
  • Contribute to numerous ongoing projects
  • Inform and educate staff on digital transformation projects.
The post holder must be registered with GMC and hold a licence to practice.

The rotation is offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months.

The post holders would work at junior doctor level in the Emergency Unit.

We would support the individual to develop skills and competencies across the breadth of Emergency Medicine, including but not limited to ultrasound, observational medicine, pre-hospital, paediatrics, frailty.

The clinical work in the Emergency Unit is well supported by middle grades and consultants throughout the 24/7 period. This is an opportunity to further develop and embed clinical skills and experience in emergency medicine.


To further support the career development of the post holder the post is split into 80% clinical work and 20% professional development.

We are able to offer development opportunities in clinical leadership, innovation, quality improvement and research and could support a post graduate certificate or diploma in medical education or other related fields.

It is anticipated that the post holder will contribute to teaching undergraduates in the Emergency Unit and at Cardiff University throughout the academic year.


Cardiff, Wales' Capital city, offers lots of opportunities for leisure time including a range of unique attractions, top class entertainment, sporting events and quality shopping - all just 2 hours by train from London.

Welsh Government have no plans to impose a new junior doctors' contract.
