Leading response to serious and cross-cutting cyber incidents, threats and vulnerabilities for government, including collaborating with NCSC, the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) and departments to minimise risks to critical assets and public services,providing technical expertise to support response, briefing Ministers and senior officials, and taking decisions on strategic risks.


  • Driving the development of the Government Cyber Coordination Centre (GCCC), a joint initiative delivered in partnership with NCSC and CDDO to radically improve our ability to collaborate on cyber operations across government, share intelligence and coordinateresponse.
  • Integrating government cyber response into the wider National Security crisis response structures, working closely with the National Security Secretariat and crossgovernment teams.
  • Continuing to mature government cyber security assurance, including the implementation of the GovAssure cyber security assurance regime for government and wider public sector, leading the Government Security Red Team, conducting crossgovernment exercises,and integrating these into the broader suite of assurance activities across government to provide objective and holistic assessment of cyber security maturity and risk.
  • Contributing to the evolution of the Government Cyber Security Strategy objectives and priorities, ensuring that these remain fit for purpose and enable government organisations to raise their cyber security maturity in an evolving threat landscape.
  • You will play a key role in GSG and the wider Government Security Function as a member of the Senior Management Team, taking decisions that affect the breadth of government security and driving forward improvement and change. You will be responsible fora deputy directorate of around 20 members of staff, and will work with a wide range of stakeholders from digital teams in departments, security professionals, the security and intelligence agencies, and national security policy stakeholders, including Ministersand very senior officials.
  • You will need to be a confident, inspiring and inclusive leader, committed to the support and development of your staff. You will act as a role model within GSG and the wider government security profession, visibly committed to our Vision and Mission.
