Role overview
What's the purpose of the role?
The Communications Specialist will plan and create internal company messaging and devise processes to improve engagement and increase the adoption of Information Technologies.
What will success look like?
Success in this role will involve working effectively with colleagues in IT to create a communications plan and programme, effectively communicating technology initiatives within the business, ensuring consistency of approach and increasing stakeholder awareness and engagement.
You also will be responsible for creating and reviewing internal comms and responding to posts to digital channels, ensuring one coherent 'voice' of the IT Department.
What will you be doing
A detailed overview of your responsibilities is as follows
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing communications guidelines and a 'brand voice' for the IT Department.
Creating case-studies demonstrating successful technology initiatives in the company.
Writing clear and simple non-technical messaging about technical innovations.
Using analytical tools to measure communication performance. Use data to improve engagement.
Persona mapping to anticipate friction and increase the rate of technology adoption.
Compiling reports on communication effectiveness and user engagement.
Copyediting colleagues' drafts and ensuring style consistency before publication.
Acting as the 'voice' of the IT Department and responding to posts to digital channels.

Experience & Qualifications
Required Skills:
Excellent communicator who can talk with specialists and distil important aspects from technical information for different audiences.
Strong organisational skills.
A flair for copywriting and creating interesting and memorable content.
Emotionally Intelligent - can communicate empathetically. Considers cultural sensitivities, and equitable and inclusive messaging to diverse groups.
Required Experience:
Practical knowledge of creating internal business social media content or communications.
Time management - completing projects within designated guidelines.
Can multitask in a fast-paced business environment.
Able to manage small projects independently.
Can create content using Adobe Creative Suite and screen recording software.
Qualifications and Accreditations:
Qualifications in communications, PR, journalism, marketing or related field would be preferred.
Style & Behaviours
Prioritising appropriately and working to agreed deadlines, managing own time and managing expectations of internal clients and other members of the team.
Can create a passion/enthusiasm for delivering excellent performance.
Take the lead on internal projects, as guided by your line manager
Works collaboratively with own team, and networks with business services and support teams and wider business. Shares ideas and applies best practise from relevant specialism.
Understands how the business works on a wider level and the role of business services and support.
Proposes solutions to challenges and raises issues within team, as necessary, taking into consideration other teams/specialisms requirements within these solutions.
