Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles.

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern will be flexible to meet the needs of the service involving both day and night shifts.

(Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.

We are looking to recruit and train people who are genuinely interested in working with children with complex medical needs to join our dedicated Paediatric Home Ventilation Service team, with anticipated start date of 17th June 2024.

The Paediatric Home Ventilation Service provides at home support for ventilator dependent children which enables the child to have a relatively normal family life outside the confines of the hospital.

This means that you will be supporting children who need a ventilator to breathe as well as assisting with aspects of daily living common to any young child.

Although beneficial, no previous healthcare experience is required for this role as you will undertake competency based training programme in hospital prior to your first home based shift.

Staff within our service work a mix of day and night shifts supporting the specific needs of our children in homes across a number of Health Board Areas.

We support children throughout Greater Glasgow, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire and the list is growing to cover other areas. You play an essential role in helping the family care for their child and live a normal life.

Following completion of your training as a minimum you will be responsible for tasks including;

  • Ventilator care
  • Active observations
  • Feeding via a tube
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Toileting
  • Help with moving
  • Dealing with seizures
You can learn more about the Home Ventilation Service in the leaflet attached to this advert.
